Just call me MAC
I have wonderful news!
I got the permanent position that I applied for at my place of work two weeks ago. I will be the Manager of Assessment Communications (or MAC as my coworker has already coined), a newly created position. I won't be managing people, but rather work so that's good in a way (I was afraid of stepping on toes of people who had been there longer than I).
I'm so excited and was a bit shocked to hear that I made it. I was second guessing myself from the moment the interview ended, thinking of things that I could have said better or explained better but now I can get over myself. And it didn't help my self esteem that the two "competitors" were slim and one was particularly stylish (I wanted to ask her where she got her whole outfit). Yes, I know those are surface things but still! And the job said that they preferred someone with a Masters in Sciece and someone who was preferably bilingual (I have only a BSc and a General Arts degree and I can speak french but the fear of using a crappy accent paralyzes me from speaking it more often) so I was convinced that both my competitors were fluently bilingual and graduated
The job title is effective Monday, although I suspect I'll be doing much of my current job (Scientific Writer) until someone is in place for that position. If you recall I started a one year contract in the position of Scientific Writer last November, covering a maternity leave. My coworker had said from the moment we became fast friends that "we've got to find a spot for you" and she was so happy when I told her the news.
It was nice to have people genuinely congratulate you and see that they truly wish you the best.
At long last, I can cross an item off my to do list. Hurrah!
I know that I didn't do this on my own, God was definitely looking down on me (take that, haters!)!
